Thank you, Portland!

I am thrilled and honored to have been elected to the Portland School Board!

Welcome!

Elect Ruth Adkins -- for a school board that's closer to the community Photo by Alan Mevis

  • Ruth has been endorsed by the Oregonian, Portland Tribune, Willamette Week, the Portland Mercury, the Multnomah Village Post, the Northwest Oregon Labor Council, SEIU Local 503, Commissioner Randy Leonard, Metro Councilor Robert Liberty, and hundreds more from all around Portland.
  • We need a voice from the community and new energy on the Board.
  • We need Board members who will ask the right questions to ensure common-sense decision making and that money is being spent wisely.
  • We need Board members who can re-connect the Portland Public Schools administration with those in the community who are feeling disaffected and discouraged--who can bring us together and move us forward with respectful, transparent, deliberative decision making.

Ruth says: “Now more than ever, as the School Board takes up the most important job it will ever do--hiring a new Superintendent--I am needed on the Board to help reconnect the District with those in the community who have been alienated and help move us forward, together, with new leadership.”

Find out more about Ruth’s decade of experience and involvement with schools citywide.

See the list of over 300 parents, teachers, seniors, community leaders, and business owners from all over Portland who support Ruth Adkins for School Board.

Bridges, sidewalks and phone lines

Ruth on the Hawthorne BridgeWith just a few days to go until the election, and only 12% of ballots returned, I am working nonstop to contact voters and get out the vote.

I've been standing on bridges, attending school events, walking door to door talking to voters, and calling voters on the phone.

If you haven't voted yet, please turn in your ballot!

Please Vote! (Willamette Week has a good idea...)

WWeek May 5

Remember that your ballots must be at the elections office or one of the other official drop sites (like your local library) by 8pm on Tuesday, May 15. Please vote!

Here's a timely reminder from the May 9 Willamette Week about the best choice for School Board from Zone 1 ... help us make a better School Board for a better Portland and vote Ruth!

"The best thing that could happen to the school district would be to have Ruth Adkins on the school board"

Saturday 5/12 UPDATE: Go to the Ruth in the News page to see all the letters to the editor!

Wednesday's (5/9) Oregonian includes a re-endorsement of Ruth Adkins for Zone 1, as well as the following letter to the editor (and be sure to check out yesterday's letter to the editor, "Adkins would serve well"; and UPDATE- see below for Randy Leonard's Thursday 5/10 letter!):

Best for district: Adkins

Multnomah Village Post endorsement: "Ruth is a slam dunk"

Multnomah Village Post

I am honored to have received the endorsement of the Multnomah Village Post!

Ruth on the Radio!

Antenna
After visiting the Hillsdale Farmers' Market on Sunday, May 6, Ruth had the pleasure of appearing as a guest on PDX Soundtracks, which airs on PSU's radio station, KPSU (1450 AM). Ruth and host DJ Ferris discussed Portland Public Schools, the School Board, and a selection of music that she brought to share! If you missed it, you can still listen online or download the entire file (careful - 56.8Mb) from here (the program begins at time marker 4:20).

Now is the time

Just one week to go until the election! As of today, only 8% of ballots have been returned.

If you haven't voted yet, it's time dig that ballot out of the mail pile and fill it in! There's still time to mail your ballot in before May 15, or drop it at an official ballot drop-off site.

Our public schools are too important to our city--not just to those of us with kids in school, but to everyone who cares about Portland--to leave their leadership to chance. Whomever you vote for, please vote! And make your voice heard.
