Now is the time
Just one week to go until the election! As of today, only 8% of ballots have been returned.
If you haven't voted yet, it's time dig that ballot out of the mail pile and fill it in! There's still time to mail your ballot in before May 15, or drop it at an official ballot drop-off site.
Our public schools are too important to our city--not just to those of us with kids in school, but to everyone who cares about Portland--to leave their leadership to chance. Whomever you vote for, please vote! And make your voice heard.
We had the last of many postcard addressing parties tonight, and got a couple thousand more postcards into the mail.
Join us for the final push of this tremendous grassroots effort! If you can help out with our final canvasses, schools visibility, or phone banking, email us at volunteer@voteruthadkins.com.
Parents and teachers and neighbors from Vernon to Duniway, from Da Vinci to Marshall to Maplewood--40 schools at last count--are supporting me, in hopes of having a school board that's closer to the community.
Add to this the huge momentum from having received all four major newspaper endorsements -- the Oregonian, Portland Tribune, Willamette Week, and the Portland Mercury. How often do all four of Portland's major newspapers agree? Not very often.
But it's still a huge challenge to unseat an incumbent. I will be working nonstop, along with my citywide crew of campaign volunteers, up until the last minute on election night, talking to voters and continuing to gather support for what I hope will be an upset victory over the incumbent.
I was talking to a Winterhaven parent last night who talked about how great it felt to be voting FOR a candidate, and how she is looking forward to having me as a longtime, active parent who understands what is happening in the schools, to represent the community on our school board. Teachers and principals and district employees, too, are eager for change and to have their concerns heard and their work respected.
Let's keep working and win this election!
