Bridges, sidewalks and phone lines
With just a few days to go until the election, and only 12% of ballots returned, I am working nonstop to contact voters and get out the vote.
Last night, my mom and I were joined by other Ruth supporters to hold up signs during the evening commute on the Hawthorne bridge. It was really fun to wave to the bike and car commuters streaming by. The waves, honks, bike bell rings, smiles, and thumbs up were great too. It was a beautiful spring evening and the dragon boats were out on the river. I love Portland!
After a quick stop for burritos (let's just say that home cooking has not been a regular feature in the Adkins household of late), we walked over to see the school play at Wilson ("The Odd Couple") where our daughter is the co-prop master (her big moment is coming out and cleaning up the mess of Oscar the slob, in between acts). The kids did a great job. Then home to collapse in bed!
The door-to-door canvassing has been all over town this week, with our final big campaign canvass happening this afternoon on both the east side and west side. Join us at 2:00 today, either at 232 NE 9th or 1405 SW Vermont (Rieke school parking lot). You'll get maps, instructions and flyers to drop at homes in key precincts. This is a family friendly event and all are welcome!
When not standing on bridges or pounding the pavement, I am on the phone calling voters to ask for their vote and remind them to turn in their ballots. I've called hundreds of voters so far and the response has been very positive.
Every single vote counts, and with the help of volunteers from all over the city, we'll just keep working up until 8:00 Tuesday night.
